Are You An Ameri-Captain?

February 22, 2011

Please help AmeriCorps Alums fight to save AmeriCorps and the Corporation for National and Community Service!

Save Service “District Day” will be taking place THIS Friday February 25, 2011 and we need your support. You can visit to find a targeted list of Senators and Representatives that folks will be meeting with this Friday.  On this website you will be able to find a district meeting near you and see what time people are planning to mobilize at these 50, targeted Congressional District Offices.

Out of the targeted districts, AmeriCorps Alums has been assigned to find District Captains for Rep. Robert Dold (IL-10), Joe Walsh (IL-08), Lou Barletta (PA-11), Sean Duffy (WI-07), Jerry Moran (KS), Lamar Alexander (TN), and Cynthia Lummis (At Large-WY).  Our District Captain for Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison will be mobilizing people to meet with her staff at their district office in Dallas, TX on Friday at 10 am.  Our District Captain for Rep. Jack Kingston will be meeting with his staff at their district office in Savannah, GA on Friday at 12pm. Many more alums are organizing and leading the charge where they live! Check out our facebook event here to let other alums know if you’re leading a visit or if you’re looking for folks to join up with!

And if you would like to take a leading role during District Day and serve as a Captain in one of the above targeted districts or with your local Member of Congress please contact Kerby Teller, Government Affairs Coordinator for Points of Light and AmeriCorps Alums, or simply comment below with your email address and we’ll contact you!

As District Captain you would need to promote the visit to alums (you’ll be able to send an email to those in your area) and local service organizations to recruit participants to attend the visit with you in your Congressional District.  We’ll provide you with talking points and petition signatures (there are over 85,000 right now) for your meeting.

We appreciate your help as we fight to save national service!
